TPS2065C: Current lmiter reverse conduction

Part Number: TPS2065C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2065D

Hi,

Could you help me to understand what would happen when TPS2065C is having reserve conduction?

for example,

Input voltage = 5V

Output voltage = 5.14V or 5.5V

Is there any protection for this device?

Thanks

  • Hi,
    I've additional questions:

    (1) what would happen to this device is Vin always stay at 5V and Vout always at 5.14V or 5.5V?

    (2) Under such condition, Is there any current flow through internal FET when protection is not triggered Is internal FET still turning on ?

    (3) Any reverse current data for this scenario?

    (4) Is the protection machanism applied to TPS2065D as well?

Looking forward for your favaourable response
    Thanks
  • Hi Khaw,

Sorry for late respone. During the device is power on (internal FET is turn on) , if the Vout > Vin then the current will go reversely from Vout to Vin . There is no any protection for this case.
  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for your swift response. Could you help me to understand the following questions:

    (1) Since there's no  protection for this case. Will this damage the device if Vin always stay at 5V and Vout always at 5.14V or 5.5V?

    (2) Any reverse current data for this scenario?

    (3) Is TPS2065D same as TPS2065C under same situation?

    Thanks

  • Hi Khaw,
    1) Since there's no protection for this case. Will this damage the device if Vin always stay at 5V and Vout always at 5.14V or 5.5V?
Answer: If reverse current is very big it will case the device damage (since no current limit for reverse) , If Vin cap is samle I think the reverse current period is short , mostly device can sustain for this case.

    (2) Any reverse current data for this scenario?
Answer: NO. We haven't this reverse current data as we don't have this reverse protection in datasheet.

    (3) Is TPS2065D same as TPS2065C under same situation?
Answer: Yes . the "D" is cost down version form "C" , the internal Die circuit is same .
  • Hi Michael,

Good day to you. I've another two questions to confirm with you:
    (4) Can Vin always keep 5V, Vout always keep 5.14V or 5.5V condition ? Customer of mine intend to intend to attach TPS2065D to a DC regulator with 5.14V or 5.5V output

(5)Is this reverse current flow through internal diode or FET itself ?

Sorry for asking so many questions
    Thanks!
  • Hi Khaw,
    Any questions is welcome.
    (4) Can Vin always keep 5V, Vout always keep 5.14V or 5.5V condition ? Customer of mine intend to intend to attach TPS2065D to a DC regulator with 5.14V or 5.5V output
Answer: it will have risk for do that, we can't do any commiment for this case.

(5)Is this reverse current flow through internal diode or FET itself ?
Answer: Current will can both grow through internal dioe and Fet , we can't do confirm .
