TPS65981: FTDI Error when Connecting to EVM

Hello,

I am working with a customer who is evaluating the TPS65981. They are unable to test the device because our Host Interface Tool isn't properly communicating with the EVM.

Below is the error messages received. I first searched this error on the forums and found this detailed thread. However, that customer resolved the issue by getting an Aardvark Programmer. So far the other suggestions in that thread have not been able to resolve the error this customer is seeing.

I wanted to start a new thread to see if a fresh set of eyes on this issue can help it reach a speedy resolution. Thank you, let me know if you have any questions for me.

Note: Error occurs during Step2 of "Programming the TPS65981EVM Firmware" of Page 13 in the EVM user guide.

Hi Ryan,

Make sure you're downloading the Config tool (applications customizations tool) and NOT the Host Interface Tool. I would recommend to uninstall your FTDI drivers and start again by downloading the Config tool which can be found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/tps6598x-config.

Hi Aramis,

The customer uninstalled the FTDI drivers and reinstalled them through the TI Application Customization Tool. They then tried importing the settings on the EVM through the TI Application Customization tool and it came with an exception error. Here is the error specifically –

Any advice from here?

Hi Ryan,

Did the customer break off the FTDI portion of the board, or did they leave the FTDI portion on (this is recommended)? Could you possibly take a screenshot/picture of how the customer is enumerating the firmware on the board?

Hi Aramis,

The FTDI portion of the board is connected. I open the Application Customization Tool and do to Device -> import setting from device. I'm just trying to read the settings on the device at the moment and not loading any firmware.

Hi Conrad,

This makes sense. One must load a project file before using The import settings from the old firmware. Section 2.5 of the "Application Customization Tool User Guide" explains how to import settings from the device: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/slvuar8a/slvuar8a.pdf

Also, if this is the first time the EVM board is being used, it might be best to load a new project template for your application. I hope this helps and If this answers your question, PLEASE select This resolved my issue
