TS3USB221A: Using as general purpose Mux

Part Number: TS3USB221A

Hi,

My customer is currently using the ts3usb221a in their system and they're wondering if it can be used as general purpose 2:1 mux for UART.  Here are the details:

This will be switching between a UART TX signal with a GPIO going to the RS422 transceiver’s TX.  The other channel will be switching between the RX signal (from the RS422 transceiver) and the UART RX and another GPIO.  All of these are 3.3V signals.

GPIO ->
                                    (MUX)    RS-422 Transceiver Driver
UART_TX ->

GPIO <-
                                    (MUX)    RS-422 receiver
UART_TX <-

I did a quick read through the data sheet and the and even though it says it’s designed for differential signals, it looks like both signals can be up to 5.5V (V IO up to 5.5V).

Thanks,

Chuchen
