TPS65986: background of NRND

Guru 29690 points

Part Number: TPS65986

Hi Team,

I found current status of TPS65986 is NRND.
Could you tell me the background?
My customer is designing their system with TPS65986 now so I shoud explain the background..
I would also like to know if we should suggest to replace another device to my customer.

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • Hi Yaita,

Please suggest the customer to use TPS65987D instead of TPS65986.

86 is a older generation device whereas 87D is newer device with better performance and will be supported for longer duration.

    Thanks,
    Rahul
  • Hi Rahul-san,

Thank you for your kind reply.
Is it no ploblem to suggest TPS65982 (active device) because P2P with TPS65986?
My customer already designed schematic with TPS65986.
I concern if TPS65982 will go NRND too..

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Yaita-san,

If your customer is already using the TPS65986 that is fine or if they prefer to switch to the TPS65982 that is also fine.

Our recommendation as shown by the NRND statement is to use our latest silicon, the TPS65987D, as your customer will then be using the latest silicon offering from TI that features the best level of integration, improved power performance (up to 100W source/sink internally and reduced RDSon 25mOhm typical) and adherence to the latest USB Power Delivery Specification (PD 3.0).

    Regards,
    Karl
