SN74AVC8T245-Q1: State requirement on data transmission

Part Number: SN74AVC8T245-Q1

Hi

I am using SN74AVC8T245-Q1 part for my application but i am having one doubt if say any data is not transmitting and device is Enabled then will it damage IC.

If so do i need to connect Pull-up or pull-down.

Regards

Nitesh

  • Hello Nitesh,

I assume that by "not transmitting" you mean that the pins will be floating. If so, that is correct. When the device is enabled you should always have the input pins at a defined state. You can either pull them to ground or to VCC.

  • Hi Aozer

    Thanks for the reply

    Your understanding is correct.
But even when the device is enabled and no transmission is happening i need to pull up the respective device I/O to that corresponding voltages.
Correct me if i am wrong??

    Regards
    Nitesh
  • Hello Nitesh,

That is correct. You can also pull them to ground. The inputs should always be at a defined state (either VCC or ground) when the device is enabled and no transmission is happening. The outputs can be left floating. For more information about why floating inputs should be avoided you can refer to this app note , Implications of Slow or Floating CMOS Inputs:
