ISOW7841: ISOW7841

Part Number: ISOW7841

Hi Team,

My customer is wondering if the Viso can be connected together.

Regards,

Yangbo

  • Hi Yangbo,

Unfortunately this cannot be done. The VISO output of one ISOW78xx device cannot be directly connected to VISO of another ISOW78xx device.

Do you know why does customer wants to do this? Is this for redundancy or for increasing output current?

  • Hi Koteshwar,

This is for redundancy. As you can see in the picture, if the Viso of the second device is fail, it can still be powered by the first device.
Can you help me to understand why it can't be done?

  • Hi Yangbo,

This is similar to a situation of connecting two regulated lab power supply outputs together. Even if the outputs of both power supplies are set to the same voltage level, practically one power supply is going to be higher than the other at least by 1mV. This makes the lower voltage power supply sink all the current from higher voltage power supply leading to an overvoltage condition.

Unlike this, ISOW78xx can be operated continuously in overcurrent mode but connecting two ISOW78xx outputs together is not desirable for normal operation of the device. I hope that answers your question, thanks.
