SN6505A: Can I put inductor?

Part Number: SN6505A

Hi,

Can I put the inductor as filter in front of Cout?

Regards,

Kotaro Yamashita

  • Hi Kotaro-san,

Thank you for using E2E forums!

Yes, you certainly can use an additional LC filter for further filtering after the decoupling capacitor Cout at the output of SN6505A based power supply solution as shown in the diagram below.

Please use this link to an application note that describes various methods of reducing power supply output ripple and noise.

I hope this answers your question. Please let us know if you need more information regarding this.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Manasa,

I meant to put L before decoupling cap. I guess that will cause ripple voltage due to charge-discharge current to decoupling cap. Is my understanding correct?
  • Hi Kotaro-san,

    Thank you for the clarification!

Adding the inductor before the decoupling capacitor is not recommended. Like you mentioned, performance is guranteed only with the presence of a decoupling capacitor at the output.

Decoupling capacitors are essential to achieve expected device performance.

    Manasa
