ISO7841: UL Conditions of Acceptability for ISO7841 and ISO784x series devices

Hello,

I am planning to use ISO7841 and ISO784x series digital isolators for a Medical Device. The datasheet states that it is Certified according to UL1577 Component Recognition Program. Before we proceed, our UL testing lab recommends us to get the UL “Conditions of Acceptability” for this device. This will help us to verify that we can use this product for our intended purpose.

Could you please help me get the UL “Conditions of Acceptability” for this device and ISO784x series digital isolators.

Hi Buddika,

You're welcome! ISOW784x and ISO784x devices share a certificate for UL 1577, so they have the same Conditions of Acceptability.

Hi Manuel,

Thank you very much for the information. This is very helpful. Is the term "Single protection, non-optical isolators" a technical term used by TI or a term used by UL to describe a device. Could you please explain the difference between "Double protection" and "Single protection" in this context?

Hi Buddika,

"Single protection, non-optical isolators" is a term defined by UL for certification purposes; similar terminology is used by VDE and other certification agencies. For example, our devices provide "reinforced insulation" according to VDE, CSA, CQC, and TUV standards which have different requirements. A link to an E2E post listing the differences between UL's "Single" and "Double" protection terms is found below.

For medical applications, our ISO78xx, ISO77xx, and ISOW784x are CSA certified for 2 Means of Patient Protection. Please do let us know if additional information is needed by responding to this post or creating a new thread using the red and yellow buttons in the top right corner of this window.

Manuel already provided you the general Conditions of Acceptability. I'm attaching individual Recognition Report for ISO784x devices which provides some additional Conditions of Acceptability. Please review those conditions on the last page of this document.
