I am trying to do a databus bidirectional translator between a 3.3v micro and 5v peripheral using SN74LVC245A. It says in the datasheet that it can be used as a translator between a mixed 3.3v/5v system. Can you advise in how one configure this chip for this purpose?
This part (SN74LVC245A) can be used to translate down 5V to 3.3v. It will not translate 3.3V to 5V
The easiest solution would be to use a duel voltage transator. SN74AVC8T245 or SN74LVC8T245

So, when the datasheet says that it can be used as a translator in a mixed 3.3v/5v system is unidirectional? i.e. one chip for 3.3v-to-5v and another for 5v-to-3.3v since it can accept voltages up to 5.5v.
If that is the case, then the bidirectional functionality only applies on a system with the same voltage level? but not on a mixed system (e.g. 2.5v/3.3v or 3.3v/5v)?
