Cascading two CD4029 counters

I'm relatively new to electronics and I'm having trouble understanding how to cascade two CD4029 counters that will dynamically count up or down depending on setting the appropriate logic levels on pin 10.  My question is about the Ci (pin 5) and Co( pin 7).

  1. Let's say that I have both chips set to count in decimal (pin 9  to logic 0).
  2. Let's also say that I can select counting up or down with a toggle switch for pin 10.
  3. Finally, I have a NO-momentary button for counting (properly debounced and tied to the clock on both chips (pin 15).

I said all of that to ask this:

How do I dynamically connect Co from one chip to the Ci of the other?  Wouldn't I need other logic chips to get the routing right?

I appreciate any advice in advance (most hair is now gone ...)

Sincerely,
