SN74LVC2T45 - Drive strength

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC2T45

Hi!

I am planning to use SN74LVC2T45 to drive a load cap of 200pF at 50MHz. If I short both the channel inputs(3.3V level) and level translate to 5V level outputs(both shorted again), would the device face any problems? Will the device be able to switch quickly enough? Also, could I have any reliability issues for such high load capacitances?

Thanks and Regards,
Subhash

  • Hi Subhash,

You can short the inputs/ outputs as you are describing and there should be no issues as long as you don't violate the maximum current ratings through VCC (100 mA).

You could have oscillation if your 5-V supply drops because of rapid switching, but other than that, you should be OK.

We have not tested 200 pF at 50 MHz. But if you test the device and it does not violate the conditions above, things should be fine.

  • Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the information. I will test the device out. Could you suggest any other driver which would be suitable for this kind of heavy capacitive load driving at 50MHz? A quad or octal driver is also fine as long as we can level translate and get sufficient drive strength by combining all the channels.
