CD74HC373: Obsolescence

Part Number: CD74HC373
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN7400

Hi,

I have two queries

(1) I have many parts for which I need to find the Obsolescence dates. Where can I get 'Obsolescence' data for all of them? I don't want to post them in forum and trouble everyone.

(2) If obsolescence has to be talked here in the forum, please provide obsolescence  data for "CD74HC373M"

Thank You,

Aravind

  • Hi Aravind,
Please see our FAQ for TI's obsolescence policy here: e2e.ti.com/.../3543.08-quality-supply-chain
  • Hi Emrys,

First of all, I am extremely sorry for a very delayed reply (1 month almost)

I had gone through Texas instrument quality guidelines, I could understand that TI's process of discontinuation from the document. Thanks for that.

    Just one more doubt,
if website ("www.ti.com/.../samplebuy") or datasheet ("www.ti.com/.../cd74hc373.pdf") says that part is active then can we consider that part is active and will be supported for at least 5 years?
Or can I write to TI? I tried many places but unable to contact TI sales.

    Regards,

  • Hi Aravind,
I do not have a crystal ball nor can I forecast the future, however I can tell you what our policy is and what my opinion is.

The policy basically boils down to this: we will continue to sell a device as long as we have a customer buying it, unless something happens that causes us to no longer be able to produce said device.

In my opinion, if you regularly order a part on an annual or quarterly basis from TI, then it will continue to be available for you. As an example, we are still shipping SN7400 units that were first designed in 1969 because we have customers who continue to buy them -- most manufacturers stopped making these a long time ago!

Also, if something did come up that we would have to stop making a device, TI would notify you well in advance of that happening (I believe the policy says 1 year, but I could be wrong). We can't predict what will happen in the future, but we do everything we can to support our customers.
  • Hi Emrys,

Thank you very much your detailed explanation and solving my query.

It is interesting to know that you still support SN7400!! Great Company! Great Values!!

    Thank you very much!
