SN74AVC8T245: Maximum data rate vs propagation delay

Part Number: SN74AVC8T245
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74AXC8T245

Hello, I am planning on using this device for 1.8V to 3.3V translation at 297 Mbps

The first page of the datasheet shows that with this voltage configuration, 320 Mbps is the max data rate.

Further down, the propagation delay for this configuration ranges from 0.5 to 3.9 ns.  At 3.9 ns, wouldn't the max data rate be closer to 256Mbps? If the propagation delay happens to fall on the high end, will this data rate be achievable? are there any steps I can take to ensure this device will work at this data rate?

Thanks

  • Hi James,

I would encourage you to consider using the newly released SN74AXC8T245 device which is tested to support your data rate (and up to 380Mbps) without issues at the rated cap load.

The tpd and data rate doesn't have an exact correlation as such. The pulse width, if rated on the datasheet would be a good measurement indicator for the device performance in terms of data rate.
Reducing the cap load lower as possible is another way to do achieve a higher data rate.
