SN74LV1T34: Output level

Part Number: SN74LV1T34
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 2N7001T

Dear E2E member,

1. Does SN74LV1T34 can support TX for UART?

2. I study the datasheet and find the figure 2.

Why the VCC =3.3V but the output level under 3V?

  • Hi Julian,

The SN74LV1T34 does support Tx for UART.

I am not sure why the graph on the datasheet looks this way, it does not seem correct. I will make sure to have that updated when possible.

If you are using the voltage translation between 1.65 to 3.3V, I would recommend using the 2N7001T or maybe the AVC family.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Karan,

About this question, does TI side have new information?
  • Hi Julian,

Is there some other information you were looking for?

    Thanks!

  • Dear Karan,

If you make sure the fig.2 graph is not correct, I think that is OK to me.

Because my customer need to confirm it.

    Thanks!

  • Hi Julian,

I cannot confirm that those graphs are incorrect because it doesn't mention what load the device is being operated on. The device is also being operated at a really fast speed of 50 MHz so that will also cause it to not reach 3.3 V.

To fully know how the device will output, you should look at the electrical characteristics section of the datasheet.

The VOH and VOL levels in these table provide you with the min and max levels of the output based on the current that is being driven. They can also be used to figure out how much drive strength the device has. As for the device working for UART. Yes the device will support UART communication but you cannot expect to operate at very fast speeds with a large load.
