SN74LVC2G07: pin application scenario

Part Number: SN74LVC2G07

Team,

My customer has the following question:

What will happen to the part if its output is tied to 3.3V (direct short) in the ON state.  From the spec, it seems to say that it’s okay but it also says that the max output current is 50mA.  I’m curious what is the ON resistance of the part that make sure the current drawn in direct short to 3.3V case that protects the part.  In short, will the part be okay if its output accidently direct short to 3.3V while the logic input is low.

Regards,

Aaron

  • Hi Aaron,
There is no current limter in this device -- these ratings are to inform the designer of the limts of the device.

Tying the output directly to 3.3V will likely result in 250mA to 500mA of current sinking into the output, followed shortly after by the device no longer functioning.
