SN74LV1T08: Are the inputs loaded if the device is not powered?

Part Number: SN74LV1T08
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 2N7001T

I am looking to use a SN74LV1T08 as a voltage translator between 1.8 V on the input and 3.3 V on the output.  It is likely that at some point the input signals will be active while the output voltage domain is off.  Will there be a load on the input if they are driven high into the part while its power is off?

  • Hi Michael,

Are you planning to use this device as an AND gate with translator option?

If not, then I would suggest considering 2N7001T as 1.8 to 3.3V unidirectional translation which provides Ioff partial power down support.
    Please let me know.
  • Hi Michael,

The SN74LV1T08 has over-voltage tolerant inputs, so you are safe to apply a voltage to the inputs when the supply is at 0V. The input leakage current maximum is typically 0.12uA (25C), and the input capacitance is typically 2pF. This is technically a load, but not enough to be of concern for most systems.

There is an FAQ on this topic located here that goes into more details:

  • Great, that is the info I am looking for. I know with other buffers, this is specifically stated in the datasheets, but I do need the AND function as well.
