LSF0204: Data error when SPI rate over 20Mbps

Part Number: LSF0204
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0304, , TXB0104, SN74AVC4T774

Hi Sir,

My ctm used LSF0204/TXB1024/TXB0304 as their data buffer.when SPI rate over 20Mbps,  they met data error, but less than 10Mhz, it will not happen. The level of OE are set low when power down and on, the error is still exist. the wave form is as follow: Would you pls give some recommendation on this issue? Thanks a lot.

  • Dear TI team:

I'm arrow FAE from China , Sara jia is our Ctm. Their project will mp in the near future and has temporarily stop due to SPI communication problems.I hope TI team can help solve it ASAP . Thank you!

In addition, the customer also tested TXB0104/TXB0104, And the phenomenon is still the same(SPI cannot communicate successfully when the frequence is above 20Mhz)

Ctm has tested some waveform tonight ,  We found the waveform is unnormal. Can we suspect the phenomenon is cause by Load Cap is more than limit of Datasheet ? If It cause by Load Cap . How can we test the Load Cap and are there some improvement measure that can let the LSF0204 work normally above 20Mhz?

             1#. Slave Data/Clk

              2#.Master Data/Clk

  • Dear TI team :

Are there other substitutive P/N recommended which can solve the problem?

  • Hi Troyson,

Since you have already mentioned and confirmed here that the additional cap loading at the output is causing this abnormal issue, I would not suggest using the TXB0104. TXB is a weak voltage level translator device and cannot handle large resistive or cap loads.

I would suggest using SN74AVC4T774 which can actively drive up to 12mA per channel suitable for SPI communication.

Please let me know once you have results from the AVC4t774 device.

  • Hi ShreyasRao,

Many thanks for your suggestions. Ctm have tested 2 pcs of SN74AVC4T774PW and one of them can communicate normally when the spi rate is 25Mbps but the other one still can not communicate normally in 25Mhz(But the abnormal one can communicate normally under 20Mbps) . Meanwhile , The normal one's waveform of clk still seems abnormal(not square wave and the attached picture is the normal one's waveform of clk)

I want to know that Is the current situation still due to insufficient drive current?  If So, Can you recommend other one P/N which offer a  strengthening driver current over 12mA(SN74AVC4T774 )

  • Troyson,

Please share the full schematic of the design. What is 'abnormal' mean in this case? Is it the ringing or overshoot/undershoot trying to be eliminated?

  • If the issue is resolved, please let me know how and what changed.

I will close the thread for now; thread will open once you reply.

  • ShreyasRao ,

Thank you for your support  . After use SN74AVC4T774 you recommended , the SPI over 25M can communicate normally. Ctm will still improve their layout because the waveform is not a full square waveform even thougn it can work normal now.

  • Thanks for replying.

Glad its working now, please let me know if you have additional questions.
