SN74LVC14A: Reliability problems

Part Number: SN74LVC14A

Hello,

did anyone noticed a reliability problems with sn74lvc14a in TSSOP14 package? We are using it few years on boards and last few months, we have a lot of reliability issues (still same board design), all of them with the same LOT (6CK-G4 CDCL).

Q2: Also, i’m not familiar with part numbers SN74LVC14APWR/PWRG3/PWRG4 - what is the difference between them?

Thanks

Michal

  • In general, devices are tested and guaranteed to work over the full range of the recommended operating conditions. What exactly is the problem that you're seeing? Can you show the schematic?

The G3/G4 suffix does not mean anything; see [FAQ] Why does a logic device's part number have an E4/G4 suffix?

  • Hi,

I'm happy to help you with your issue, I could use some more info about your application. As Clemens has said, it would be beneficial to have a schematic as well as scope shots of the problems you are seeing (input and output in the same scope shot would be great).

  • Thanks for the replies.

I asked developers for the schematic and saw a problem after few minutes. I made some measurements and voltage on A6 input was too high (only lowered from 24V to 12V using 100K resistor). Absolute maximum voltage for input is 6.6V, so 12V is 80% over the maximum. I think there is no discussions about the reason of the problems. Sorry for the unnecessarily opened case.

Boards with this “design” was produced since 2008, so i wonder, that thousands of invertors whitstands 80% overvoltage (and are still functional after 10 years) and problems appears with the latest series only.
