SN74HC04: Connection Question

Any issue or concern to be aware of when connecting this device as shown in the image below? Understood that it is not shown like that on the datasheet, but it still works as intended on a lab environment and the specific application needs this inverter to be used this way.

    The first thing I have to mention is that this use case will not be guaranteed by the datasheet.

    So, technically a voltage is just a potential relative to another potential. Having the GND pin at -5V and the Vcc pin at GND lets the device behave the same as when the GND is at GND and the Vcc pin is at 5V.

    Now, I am assuming your input signals are negative? Then your output signals will also be negative. Just take care to not accidentally introduce any voltages outside the -5V to 0V range. If the system operates at this range, then to the chip, it will only notice a 5V difference between the VCC pin and GND which is how the chip operates. Also make sure to not leave any input pins floating and tie them to either GND or -5V in this case.
