Thermal characteristics of SNJ54AC11FK

Good morning.

I am looking for a reference to the thermal characteristics of the SNJ54AC11FK ie the one in the 20 pin LCCC.

I don't want to know how to measure it myself, I don't want a lengthy treatise on why thermal issues are important to consider in a design, I want the theta JA (Junction to Ambient) so I can derate the parts dissipation at elevated temperatures.

Thanks,

George Ott

  • Hi George,

We currently have no thermal data available for that package. I've went ahead and submitted a request for this information and will post back under this thread in 2 weeks with the information.

I'm going to go ahead and close this thread to ensure there are no duplicate threads like this one.

    Thanks!

  • Just out of curiosity, what fraction of the packages TI has do have thermal information available?

  • Hi George,

For any of our new part releases, we provide all thermal information available.

We also provide thermal information upon request for our older releases, as we're actively improving our datasheets to include this information.

    Thanks!

  • Hi George,

    I've received the information back:

Result- Theta JA-High K (standard datasheet value):

    94.1

Result-Theta JC, top (standard datasheet value):

    64.2

    Result-Theta JB (standard datasheet value):

    67.2

Result- Psi JT (standard datasheet value):

    63.4

Result- Psi JB (standard datasheet value):

    68.4

Result-Theta JC, bottom (standard datasheet value):

    16.2

    Thanks!

  • Thanks.

However the table that is shown states that the values are "(standard datasheet value):"

Now I would like to know where these values can be found as I did not see them in the datasheet for the SNJ54AC11FK part.

    Curiously yours,

    George

  • Hi George,

Older versions of our datasheets do not include these thermal characteristics, and we're always working to update these datasheets with information.

The issue of the missing thermal information for this specific datasheet has been noted, and we'll work to provide an update to it in the future.

If in the future you're looking for thermal information in a datasheet that does not have it, you always welcome to post here and we'll provide the information to you.

    Thanks!

  • Chad,

I do not understand. If the values given in the answer above are "standard datasheet values" and the existing part datasheet doesn't have them, are the values from a different part in the same package? Or is there a library of package standard thermal values somewhere that I didn't find?

    Regards,

    George

  • Hi George,

The values above are specifically provided for the IC and package in question (SNJ54AC11FK).

You are correct that the datasheet does not list these values; they are generated by our design team, on request, when they are needed (internally or by a customer).

In your specific case, the thermal values above were not available to me either, so I had requested that the design team provide these values. This was so that I could both answer your question, and make these values available for the next revision of the datasheet.

Unfortunately no, there is not a library of standard thermal values, and if you have questions about thermal ratings of devices in the future, you'll need to post in this forum.

    Thanks!

  • Chad,

That makes sense. Thanks for chasing this one down.
