Hi. I am developing an application using CC2530. I designed two 4-layer PCBs, each with an Inverted-F Antenna following DN007.

Testing with basicrf, however, I got very low range, even with Tx power set to 4.5dBm. For my application, I need the transmitter (fixed) and the receiver (mobile) to be able to communicate inside a house.

So I put an SMA connector on the transmitter and plugged a 2dBi antenna. It extended the range a little, but it's not even close to what I need for my application.

Would CC2591 be a solution?

Also, I am planning to use SimpliciTI instead of Z-Stack since it's a fairly simple application. Is SimpliciTI compatible with the range extender? I got mixed informations searching around.

Hi YiKai,

thanks for your response. I'll try something mentioned in one of those posts to see if it works.

Also, though it is recommended to strictly follow the reference design for CC2530+CC2591EM, I can't fully do it in my project, since I am limited to 0805 parts. Will my design be drastically affected? Is there any way to measure something like that?

Yes, using 0805 will dramatically affect the performance most probably to the point where it does not work at all. The parasitics etc will change a lot using 0805 compared to 0402.
