CC1111-Packets Loss with RF communication using SimpliciTI in water

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLICITI

Hello,

I am using CC1111F32 trasceiver for my Wireless apllication in Europe. There was no packets loss during transmission on ground but when the same RF communication was tested in water was showing loss of packets during transmission.

I am using simpliciTI RF communication method with

1)GFSK  (Gaussian frequency-shift keying)

2)RF Frequency = 869.524963 MHz

3)Channel spacing = 199.951172 kHz.

can someone explain of what might be the reasons associated with this problem.

Thanks.

  • Attenuation in water is high (and worse at higher frequencies). Usually very low frequencies are used to communicate underwater and 869 MHz is not a good solution if you want long range. One thing to check is how much the RSSI changes for the same distance in air and underwater. This will indicate if the poor reception is due to too low input signal level or something else.

  • Sverre thanks for your reply.

    Can I know

1)which frequency suits and can be used to communicate underwater in europe

2)can you explain a bit about -how to measure RSSI

what are the other factors to be considered or will affect the  the attenaution of RF coummication in water compared to the commmunication on ground.

    Thankyou.

  • I am by no means an expert in underwater communications and I suggest you do a Google search for "RF communications underwater". Think that will answer most of your questions.

RSSI is a measure of the received signal power level. You can read this from the RSSI register.
