SmartRF Packet Sniffer does'nt show any Capturing Device

Hi,

I have received an evaluation kit and try to use the CC2531 USB Dongle / USB Nano Dongle.
They are both detected by the RemoteTI-Target Emulator but when I try to use the SmartRF Packet Sniffer (under Windows XP), it does'nt see any Capturing Device.

The driver seems to be correctly installed (I can see under Cebal controlled devices the CC2531 USB dongle driver)
Maybe the sniffer firmware is not flashed in the USB dongle ?

I will try to flash the sniffer_fw_cc2531.hex firmware

I did flash the sniffer fw and the CC2531 is now recognized in the SmartRF Packet Sniffer.

The fact is that
the CC2531 emk is already flashed with the sniffer packet firmware (when you connect it the led is green)
the CC2531 included in the CC2533 DK-RF4CE-BA is not flashed with (when you connect it the led is off)

No more issue, every thing works well now.

Hi Maurice,

Very good that ou were able to resolve your problem.

As you correctly point out the firmware on the USB dongle is different between the kits. The CC2531 USB Dongle in the RF4CE DK comes preprogrammed as a HidDongle to be able to be used as an RF4CE remote control receiver out of the box.

Is the initial firmware (not the sniffer) the same that is in the nano USB dongle ?
is it possible to flash the nano USB dongle too?

Maurice,

I _think_ the firmware is identical on both dongles. The nano dongle can be programmed in the field either through a bootloader (it should show up as a USB drive on your PC and you can simply drag and drop the hex file into it) or through the contact points between the USB contacts.

Hi,

I am afraid I have got a bad idea.

The RemoteTI TargetEmulator proposed an item to go back to the boot loader and the USB Nano dongle is no more recognized
I do have the ZID_Nano_Dongle-CC2531F256.hex file but how can i load it into the Nano USB dongle ?

Sorry, i just found the usbser.sys driver

I suppose I can now reprogram the dongle.

I think I have missed something

After installing the usbser driver, the port COM 25 appeared.

I then tried to use the RemoTI_SBDemo.exe to load a new *.hex into the Nano USB Dongle but now it is not recognized and the serial port 25 does'nt show in the COM List.

Any clue on how to recover the use of the Nano USB Dongle ?

Hi Maurice,

If the device does not show up as either serial port or USB HID, then you may have to resort to the debug interface. There are test points on the PCB which allows you to use SmartRF Flash Programmer.
