Does wl18xx Wilink work with Microcontroller like CC3000?

I need wireless connection between MCU and android phone. Bluetooth is a little bit slow for our application. So we are thinking using WI-FI Direct. I know CC3000 can work with MCU, but It doesn't support Wi-Fi Direct. Wl18XX products support Wi-Fi Direct. Does anybody can tell me does Wl18XX  work with MCU? Thanks.

  • Hi,

The possible option is to use WL18xx as an AP (b/g/n) and connect from CC3000.
With wl8, we support Linux/android/qnx and windows (some releases). So there is no support for any MCUs.

  • Thanks for you reply. I found this sentence" Only one of the Wi-Fi devices needs to be compliant with Wi-Fi Direct to establish a peer-to-peer connection that transfers data directly between each other with greatly reduced setup"

Does that mean my device doesn't need to support Wi-Fi Direct (MCU+CC3000), if the Smartphone support Wi-Fi Direct? and they can communicate with Wi-Fi Direct.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

I don't believe this to be the case... Where did you find the sentence?

  • Hi,

I found it from two website.

    One is Wi-Fi alliance: http://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-direct

You only need one Wi-Fi Direct device to form a group - See more at: http://www.wi-fi.org/discover-wi-fi/wi-fi-direct#sthash.pbR9Aicr.dpuf

  • Hi,

If I understand correctly, the links describe a connection when the WL8 act as P2P GO (and therefore actually AP), and the other device is normal STA

This is not a real P2P connection, but more a normal connection.
