Question on CC2540 Development Kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

I just received my CC2540 Development Kit and set up both Eval boards.  The Quick Start Guide indicates that one should come up as BLE Central and the other BLE Peripheral.  Both of my modules came up as Peripheral and the device address for both is 0xCOFFEECOFFEE advertising.

Has anyone seen this?  Am I doing something wrong or do I have a defective kit?

  • Simply flash the HostTestRelease in the USB :)

    Bye!

  • Hi Rick,

Sorry to hear that. We have indications that this has happened to some unfortunate customer and we are looking into it. The easy solution would be as kazola mentions, simply flash on of the devices with the cc2540_ble1.1_SmartRF_SimpleBLECentral.hex file found in the C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC2540-1.1a\Accessories\Hex_Files directory (default install path).

    Sorry for the inconvinience

  • Hi Rick,

Aha - we meet! I got the two Centrals :)

It's quite easy to switch over one of the boards with help posted in this thread, so now I have a Central and a Peripheral.

What is frustrating it that I can't seem to use the Kickstart to build anything due to the code size :(

The code size should not be of any problem, can you describe your issue a bit further?

  • Hi Tim,

Thanks for the help.  I will make that change and hopefully I can move forward.

I am trying to use the IAR Workbench Kickstart edition to build the example code with the CC2540, but having followed other threads regarding the --ks-version option I still can't build anything without exceeding the 4k code limit of this edition of Workbench.

And I'm not sure I want to fork out for the IAR workbench for just a hobby :(

  • Hi Tim,

I see your concern, I was not aware of the IAR Kickstart version. You are correct that you wont be able to build any projects because of the 4K limit since the BLE stack is, and will be, larger than 4K.

  • If I can enter the thread, you can also try the 8.10 trial version, which furthermore does not need the cc2540 patch like the previous 7.51 did because it already has this included :) I've experienced no problems when working with 8.10.
