What is inside the CC3000?

I have a few questions about the internals of the CC3000 that I believe will give us better understanding of the CC3000 and will help us make more informed design decisions. If anyone can answer one or more of these, please jump right in!

1. That type of MCU is the CC3000 running internally?

2. Does the CC3000 use the WiLink chipset?

3. Why is there a driver and a firmware, instead of just a firmware?

4. Why does the driver need to be patched before the firmware and not the other way around?

5. Any idea what some of these chips are?

  • Hi Ivor,

    Below are the answers.

    1) This is a proprietary TI IP.

    2) This is a proprietary TI IP.

    3) Both are firmwares. Driver refers to TOP MAC FW and Firmware refers to bottom MAC FW.

    4) It is required due to CC3000's internal boot procedure.

    5) Any specific chip that you are looking for here?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Raghavendra
