PLC transmission over 3-phase AC home powerline?

Hi. I am designing a powerline system for home automation purposes. I am in the Cenelec B band (~100kHz). The question is whether I can have powerline communication accross a three-phase electrical network, ie if the device A connected to phase 1 can 'speak' via PLC with the device B connected to phase 2, without any coupling at the main panel (I want a plug & play system).

Hi.

Generally it depends on wiring configuration. According to the article in the link below, all the phases are close to each other in the bus bar. As they are close to each other, there is a capacitance between the phases. As the homeplug appliance works with high frequency (above 2 MHz), the capacitive reactance (XC) is low, then the signal will be "naturally inducted" to the other phases. So it is really possible to communicate between phases.

But this articles covers the HomePlug >2Mhz signals.

G3 on CENELEC B are around 100-150kHz so they obviously don't couple

I wonder about CENELEC D, but I guess even FCC won't do it

That's a big dissapointment. Most big and new houses in Europe are in 3-phase

Well, perhaps for FCC it is possible as well. For lower frequencies one needs additional efforts (capacitors between phases for example).

Well, FCC is not allowed in Europe anyway. I guess I'll have to move to a HomePlug Green PHY solution but I think there is a sparse market.

I would like to ask you a question about 3 phase modem. I am evaluting TI

tmdsplckitv3 for lighting application. Actually, Do you have any idea about sending communication signals in

the bus bar systems ? there are 3 phase,notr and ground. My aim is to design PLC Modem for 3 phase lighting.

I have read your thread in e2e forum about PLC transmission over 3-phase .
