Piccolo f2807x startup and development

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Initially I was looking to use the F28075/4 for wireless communications.  I'm pushing a huge amount of data and the throughput on this MCU fits my needs.  Additionally, I am hoping to also use this MCU for several other real-time applications so I would like to continue building on a platform with this kind of power.

That being said, I have zero experience with MCU's and from what I've read this is not the one to start with.  Let's say I would still like to under take this task as it is more of a side project, does anyone have any suggestions on getting started (i.e. buying dev boards/building my own)?  Or is starting small and working my way up still the best idea?  Thanks!

  • Hi CJay,

Do you already have the F2807x kit with you? or do you want to start studying the C2000 family before the kit arrives?

    Regards,
    Gautam
  • Hi Gautam,

Thanks for the response! I dont have a kit yet, but was hoping to get one soon. I guess I'm looking for tips on what exactly to get to start me off and then how I can begin incorporating the MCU into my own project.

Do you have no experience at all with other MCU also (for example: PIC, AVR, MSP430)?
So it means this will be your first MCU to program, doesn't it?

If so, you need the one that basic, for example Launchpad.

There will be F2807x Launchpad released next year, but if you can't wait and want to learn the basic peripherals of Piccolo, you can use Launcpad F28027 (). It is cheap and has many examples to understand to use the peripherals.

However, in my opinion, any kit of Piccolo is a good start to learn.

    Good luck!

    Best regards,

    Maria

  • Yes, you can go through C2000 launchpad documentation to start with and then later you have F2807x sample codes available here: C:\ti\controlSUITE\device_support\F2807x\v130\F2807x_examples_Cpu1
You need to download controlSuite for this.

  • Thanks for the suggestions, Gautam and Maria. I think I'll start with the LaunchPad for the F28027, and then once I have a grasp on it move up to the 7x.

  • That would be Great!

    Goodluck & Regards,
