Connecting to a Picolo 28xx controller (in HVPSFB dev kit)

I am using the HVPSFB development kit along with the TMS320F28007 controller card.  When I load the HVPSFB program in the voltage control open loop mode (VCU mode), I get to select the COM port.  After selecting the COM port, when I attempt to run the program, I get the following error message:

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -1135 @ 0x0)
The debug probe reported an error. Confirm debug probe configuration and connections, reset the debug probe, and retry the operation.
(Emulation package 5.1.641.0)

I use the following connecting : TI XDS100v1 USB debug probe

Please let me know what is the issue here and how do i get around this?

Thanks,
Rajaram

  • Hi Rajaram,

Was the kit working previously? I would like to know the history of the above kit.

    Regards,
    Gautam
  • Hi Gautam,
We have not used this kit before.  We had purchased this from TI about 7 months back, but used it only now.  The code composer suite was installed a few days back, the most recent version.

  • Hi Rajaram,

I am a bit confused.  You appear to be trying to connect and load the HVPSFB project via CCS, however if you go this route nothing should be asking you about COMport settings.

Please note that (A) whether or not resistor R6 in the Piccolo macro of the controller card is populated and (B) whether J1 on the controller card is populated are both critical to get things to work.  To run the GUI, these two components need to be set one way.  To run and connect with CCS, they need to be set differently.

Refer to the settings in the QSG document if you wish to use the GUI, and/or refer to the settings in the User's Guide document if you wish to use CCS.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,

    Thanks for your note.

Ok, so I opened R6 & J1 as per the QSG, and then connected J2 & J3 for VMC.

Without the 400V, I see that the GUI does not connect to the target. Can you confirm that this is ok, nothing wrong? I want to be sure before I apply the 400VDC to the input. Thanks!

    Regards,
    Rajaram
  • Hi Rajaram,

Yes, the F28027 is only powered once 200-400Vdc is input.  Once powered, the F28027 should then be able to connect to the GUI.  The LD1 nearest the Piccolo MCU (on the controller card) should light up once the chip is powered.

J7 on the PSFB base-board is what generates the bias supply which is used by the board.  See the schematics for more information.

    Thank you,
    Brett
