about digital power for C2000

I want to buy an evaluation board to learn digital power, there are three options: Interleaved PFC (tms320f28035), LLC (TMS320F28027), PSFB (TMS320F28027), as a beginner and want to learn more about the best use of an evaluation board digital power related programming knowledge, will choose which one is better?

    if there is specific topology you are interested in then the specific EVM are good choice
  • I am a Chinese student, as TI's evaluation boards for us, the price is still expensive, so I wanted to seek a maximum cost for the same price you can learn more about the digital power of knowledge, such as peak current control implementation phase shift control to achieve, and so, is there any good solutions yet
  • Dear Manish, could you please describe the differences between "Digital Power Buck Converter BoosterPack" ( www.ti.com/.../BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV ) and "C2000 Digital Power Training Kit" ( www.ti.com/.../tmdsc2kwrkshpkit )? The second one is equipped with two buck converters, but I can not understand where the price difference (about 140$ vs 399$) comes from, since it seems that the buck converter alone costs 59$. I would like to play a little bit with practical digital control of power electronics: are the two devices both suited for such purpose? Does the cheapest one allow me to implement also so called "current loops", with current sampling synchronized to the PWM? Does it support double update of symmetrical PWM? Can The lab manual related to "C2000 Digital Power Training Kit" be used with "Digital Power Buck Converter BoosterPack" as well? I apologize for all these questions, but I would like to avoid wasting money, and I really can not figure out the reasons for such price difference between the two kits.

    The first kit (tmdsc2kwrkshpkit) was released in 2012 for use with a 1-day course on digital power supply control using C2000. It's a self-contained kit featuring two independent buck converters. The workshop material steps the student through PWM generation, closed loop voltage cmode control, and finally peak current mode control.

    The second kit (boostxl-buckconv) is a plug-in adaptor board (or "booster pack") for the F28069M LaunchPad kit. It was designed to demonstrate digital power control using two independent bucks, but at a much lower cost. For various reasons, the training materials have not been updated to use the newer kit, so the only supporting code is the example code in controlSUITE. The workshop manual from the other board does not apply. You can implement synchronized current sampling and double PWM update - these are possible on all C28x parts - however this board will not support peak current mode control.

    I appreciate the cost difference is significant, but if your goal is to experiment with digital power including PCMC and you can stretch to the price of the workshop board, I recommend that approach.

    It's a little complicated to please post back if anything's still not clear.

    thank you very much for your answer. So basically the two kits can both be used for the same purpose, i.e. experimenting some simple digital control of power electronics devices, and the main differences are that 1) the tmdsc2kwrkshpkit does support both peak current control and average current control modes, while only the latter is available using boostxl-buckconv and 2) the tmdsc2kwrkshpkit is provided with a quite exhaustive documentation while boostxl-buckconv is not.

    If I understood correctly, I think I will have a look at the documentation/labs of the tmdsc2kwrkshpkit : if they can be used at least as basic guideline/scheme maybe I will try to buy the boostxl-buckconv , otherwise I will consider if it is worth to pay more for a better kit.
