which PICCOLO? tms320f28027?tms320f28069? there is a few piccolo out there. check here for example code www.ti.com/.../controlsuite

I have been using the F28069 and the launchtray, (F28069M). 

But anyway I do not think the Piccolo can handle 1553b.

If there is any Piccolo, of any series number, than can, I would appreciate the response.

looks like this avionics standard is RS-422 based. I believe you could make this work over the SPI which supports RS-422 and 485.
that's about the extent of my knowledge on the topic...

Thanks for the meaningful response. It looks like I will have to do something like that, if I use a TI product, since TI apparently does not have a board which handles 1553 directly. But there are other vendors who do..

There is an IEEE paper published in 2012 on using a TI 67xx class DSP and its McBSP and DMA to do the protocol along with external driver chips. All C2000 devices have McBSP as well, and most have DMA. The 2806x and the 28335 may be your best bets in terms of power/cost to do this as we are hitting equivalent MIPs as those 6x devices did 3 years back.

I can't re-publish the IEEE paper, but the ESBN is 978-1-4673-4686-3.

Just out of curiosity can you mention the other vendors you are referring to? I did a quick search of our major competitors in the micro space and the closest I came was an app note on using a UART for this protocol.
