F28069m

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV, POWERSUITE, CONTROLSUITE

When I try to import the BOOSTXL-BUCKCONV  buck-boost projects into Code Composer, it halts, telling me I need the C2000v6.4 compiler.

So that gives me pause. If I download the v6.4 compiler, will all my other existing projects then fail because of the new compiler ? Or may I have 2 compiler versions?

Also, are these projects really compatible with the F28069M? I question that because they are in the powerSUITE directory, though their name does have F28069M appended.

Or do I need to buy another board?

Thanks,

Nolan

Which CCS version are you using? Download CCS v6.1 and update the same. This should solve your issue.

Yes, its compatible with F28069M LP.

    Check this folder: C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\BOOSTXL_BUCKCONV\v1_01_00_00

  • 1. Nolan, the project is not tied to F28069M. Launchpad was only available for F28069M and hence the choice. We have recently also updated the software for support of F28x7x launchpad. However the code does use SIne Table Location from the ROM and those change between F28069M and F28069 so this is something you may want to keep in mind when using F28069 on your board instead of F28069M.

    2. Ideally compiler incompatibility should not cause any errors, it should warn but still import. Also even if you download the new compiler you will still have the old version installed and all the old projects should compiler with no issues and still using the old version unless you make the change. So did you receive a warning or an error?

Additionally there is an FAQ section under the resource explorer in case you have issues seeing the cfg page.

  • Manish,

    Thank you for the reply.

On (1) I have multiple F28069M's and Picolos. My original question was whether the project worked on the F28069M. You are saying it works on both  the 69M andf the Picolo?

On (2) it simply stops loading when I try to import and gives me this message I reported. It does not go any farther, so I consider that a fatal error versus a warning. Gautam however gave me an answer, that I have to download CCS 6.1. I am using CCS 6.0 now. I will do that.

    Regards,

    Nolan

  • Nolan,

No, the project will work only with F28069M. To make it work with F28069 is simple make sure the sin table location is corrected, but if you are trying to use F2803x and F2802x it will need some work. Which specific piccolo device do you want to run this on?

CCS6.1 is required for powerSUITE. So the error you got is not because compiler was incompatible but because you did not have CCS6.1. Please make sure you install GUI composer as well.

  • Gautam,

Thanks. But when I try to download 6.1 from Ti's site it just gives me a download for 6.0.

    How can I download 6.1?

    Regards,
    Nolan
  • Hi Nolan,

Was on a tour, I hope you're issue has been resolved?
    Please do update us.

    Regards,
    Gautam
  • Gautam,

    Thanks for the follow-up.

Upgrading to CCS6.1 did allow the project to load successfully. Thanks on that advice.

However it will not compile under the ControSuite that I have, though I updated ControlSuite to 3.3 yesterday.

Is 3.3 the latest and greatest?

The problem appears to be I need the BoosterPack also, even though this is a F28069M project,.

There are some Buck...asms and other files that  are not available in ControlSuite 3.3?

I assume when you get the BoosterPack you get some additional software?

    I'll just buy the BoosterPack.

    Best regards,

    Nolan

    Nolan

  • Nolan,

    1. No all the software is provided in controlSUITE.

    2. Can you be specific on the error you get when compiling?

    3. The latest version of controlSUITE is v3.3.3 - June 19, 2015, you can check this in ReleaseNotes under controlSUITE folder

  • Hi Manish,

1.Yes now I realize I need to download also PowerSuite and buy the buck boost BoosterPack. I am doing that now. Before I just thought this was a regular ControlSuite project. Thanks for pointing this out.

    2. A large number of errors. I did not have the PowerSuite software so it had lots of errors, trying to open source it did not have.

    3. Yes I DO have 3.3. I figured there was something missing, which is why I asked the question, but the missing item was PowerSuite, not anything in ControlSuite.

    Thank You,
    Nolan
  • Nolan,

    1. I meant you do not need to buy the boosterpack. There is no additional software that ships with it. Everything is in controlSUITE.

    2. powerSUITE is installed as part of controlSUITE itself. There is no separate install.

    3. Can you follow the video below

    http://bcove.me/xtqkgb5u

and tell us where you get the error.

there is also a very helpfull FAQ section in the resource explorer that lists how to check if powerSUITE is installed or not and various other issues like CCS version etc.
  • OK well I DID buy the boosterpack. I compiled all the code and loaded it correctly. I have no error except for the following question. According to the quarter-page of instructions furnished, when I flip SW1 on the boosterpack the "output voltage should ramp up to 2v".

Well output voltage measured off what? It says refer to "the users guide and PowerSuite documentation for more details". Can you please tell me where those items, if they exist, are located? A simple ReadMe in the project would be adequate, then you would not have to hunt around, send emails to Support, etc.

I did look at that video. Having a "Solution Adapter" modify another project is a headache I don't need.

All I really want is better documentation on the buck booster project.
  • Gautam,

Since our last chat on this I bought the BoosterPack, I was able to get all the code to compile, load, and execute properly.

One remaining question, if you do not mind. The abbreviated instructions included with the BoosterPack order, say that the "output voltage shall ramp up to 2V when SW1 is turned on on the BoosterPack".

Where do  I measure the output voltage? An ePWM or HPRM I  assume, but which one?

It says refer to the "user's guide and PowerSUITE documentation for more details".  Can you tell me where these items are located?

    Regards,

    Nolan

  • Hi Nolan,

Didn't you go through the booster pack user guide? Its pretty much in detail. The fact being I've personally not used this booster pack I won't be able to assist further.
User guide can be found here: C:\ti\controlSUITE\development_kits\BOOSTXL_BUCKCONV\v1_01_00_00\Docs

    Gautam
  • Gautam,

Thanks. I downloaded the boost/buck project from Resource Explorer, which download did not include the documentation you identified.

(There was no Docs folder in that download.)

This is the information I needed.

    Best Regards,

    Nolan

  • Please update your controlSuite then!

  • Gautam,

Again thank you for telling me where in ControlSuite these pdfs were found. I DID update my ControlSuite beforehand.

The issue was I pulled the project out of the Solution Explorer, the PowerSuite portion, and the project furnished did not have a Docs sub- directory. No biggie, I looked where you said it was in my ControlSuite and you were right.

    Br,
    Nolan
  • Good Good! So I guess you're up and running :) ?

    Goodluck & Regards,
    Gautam
  • Hi Gautam,

    Thanks.

Well I am farther along. If you look at the UserGuide you referenced in your reply, it says on page 20 to double click on the main.cfg file.
In the UG it shows a couple of widgets which are then supposed to pop up, a Project Options widget and a PowerStageParameters widget.

You are supposed to setup the project basically in these widgets.

I do everything exactly like the UG says, but no widgets pop up.

Can anyone give me a hint on why this is? I DO have the latest and greatest ControlSuite installed, (6.1). I also have the GUI directory installed.
Somehow I think I am missing a step here.

    Regards,
    Nolan
