what is common issues faced while sampling 3 phase AC using TM320F28075 ?

I would like to sample three phase ac using ADC in TM320F28075, what are the issues that may arise ? and precautions to be taken ?

  • Hi Joseph,

The ADC can only resolve a voltage in the range of 0 to VREFHI (typically around 0 to 2.5V), so you will need to build some signal conditioning circuits to turn the voltages and/or currents into voltages in this range.  For best results, you will want to drive the ADC inputs with a low impedance source, which typically will be an op-amp.

From a SW perspective, you can take advantage of the multiple ADCs on this device to sample your voltages and/or currents simultaneously. For best performance, you need to make sure the ADCs operate synchronously, so you will want to configure  same numbered SOCs with identical S+H duration and trigger select.

  • Joseph,

    To add to devin's comments

YOu will need to design how you want the AC to be sensed L-N, L-L, whether the N is there or not.. will be some issues that will determine the circuitry that connects to the ADC, note ADC only takes positive voltage hence signal conditioning needs to be done appropriately.

F28075 has multiple ADC so you can use that to simulataneously sample the signals

Also issues faced will depend on the application you want to create.
