BoostXL drv8301 run from 28069M controlCARD

I am trying to run the BoostXL drv8301, that came with my LaunchPadXL F28027F, from an F28069MISO controlCARD that I recently purchased.

Setup

BoostXL DRV8301 board

11.1v LiPo

Anaheim BLY172S motor that comes from an 8312 Dev kit

F28069MISO controlCARD w/ docking stn. From C2000 Dev. Kit

USB to both docking stn. and controlCARD

On the controlCARD I’ve uploaded the Poject_Lab5c from the DRV8301_kit.RevD for the 28069M

I need to know if I have the boards connected properly. In the DRV8301 SPI tab of the MOTION GUI the SPI Working LED is green but the Rx Working is red, also the FETLC_OC is red(all others are green).

When I try to identify the Anaheim motor from the FOC tab I get PWM's to the drv8301 but nothing out of the drv8301 PWM lines. The lab is designed for inertia identification, however I get an error code of 2004.

Did you try Project Lab 2 or 3 before jumping to Lab 5?

Ben,
There will be a 69M version of the LaunchPad orderable next Thursday, that works with your BOOSTXL-DRV8301 and with full support in MotorWare. You can try to debug your hardware...or wait for a known working board. :)

Thank you for your responses. Maria, yes I did try to load another .out into the GUI, but I got no change. I went through each of the pins on the LaunchPad F28027F and each of the pins on the F28069M controlCARD with an oscilloscope. There are some discrepancies. One that particularly caught my attention was that from the LaunchPad the J2.8 pin EN-GATE is 3.3v, I'm not getting this in my current connections to the F28069M. I think I will continue to attempt to get these working together but I did see the Boost board for the 28069M. http://www.ti.com/tool/launchxl-f28069m It will likely help to speed things along.

If I can just say, I have just gotten my feet wet with the TI MCUs. There is definitely a learning curve involved, but this is by far the the most professional, polite and efficient forum I have been on. You wouldn't believe how rude some of the ~freaks~ out there can be!

Hello Chris,
About the new LP for F28069M, is the hardware document already available in ControlSuite?
If so, maybe Ben can refer to this document.

About the project that you loaded, which user.h that you use?
I think you should use user.h that used by BoostXL.

I have been using the user.h from the drv8301_kit Rev. D labs, but I will try the BoostXL labs. I did get the motor spinning with the motor identity in MOTION, but I don't think the ADC connections are correct. I had to do some quick unplugging before things got hot. I am also going through the GPIOs in the HAL.c file to understand what each ADC is being used for.

using the user.h from the DRV8301 EVM with the BOOSTXL is certainly going to be a problem. You are telling the software that the ADC readings are completely different than they really are.

Maybe I should elaborate. The reason I am looking into the ADC lines is because when I enable the system it tells me the bus voltage is 27v. However, if I connect J5.3 to ADC B4 I get the correct voltage read. I think the ADC connections are incorrect and I'm not getting the feedback from the motor that I'm looking for.

if you aren't using the correct USER_ADC_ settings for the HW (which you aren't if you are using the DRV8301 EVM user.h) it explains some of your issues.

At this point I would recommend just waiting on the new Launchpad.

Hi did you connect the boostxl in the bottom part of the28069M ( away fron thé USB)?

Originally I was experimenting with getting the boostXL board working with a 69M control card and docking station but since then the 69M launchpad was released. I was trying to modify example labs for the 27M because the example labs for the 69 had not been released yet.
