Possibility of driving a BLDC motor using LAUNCHXL-F28027 and BOOSTXL-DRV8301

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28027F, LAUNCHXL-F28027, BOOSTXL-DRV8301, CONTROLSUITE, DRV8301, MOTORWARE

I wanted to drive a BLDC hub motor 250W, so I ordered the LAUNCHXL-F28027F and BOOSTXL-DRV8301. I've accidentally received LAUNCHXL-F28027 instead of LAUNCHXL-F28027F. The F28027 variant doesn't support InstaSPIN so I wouldn't be able to run the example codes from "InstaSPIN Projects and Labs User's Guide". Is it possible for me now to control the motor? How should I proceed?

  • no, you need the "F" version to run the InstaSPIN-FOC projects.

did you order the wrong version or receive the wrong version?

if you are in north America I will send you another. If you are not it will honestly be faster to re-order the "F" version yourself.

  • No you can't.  You will need LAUNCHXL-F28027F to run InstaSPIN-FOC. I too had ordered the wrong version it kindof confusing which to pick. I Have wasted a day trying to drive a bldc motor without any success when it comes to LAUNCHXL-F28027.

  • Actually I have went through various forums with similar problem. In most of them Chris had said that we can control BLDC even using the F28027 launchpad.

I just wanted to know that how should I proceed if I want to use the very launchpad I have to control a BLDC motor.

    Any examples that might help.

  • "In most of them Chris had said that we can control BLDC even using the F28027 launchpad."

I doubt I stated it like that. You certainly CAN control BLDC motors with the regular non-F Launchpad, but there are NO examples given in controlSUITE. With some effort you could port the F28035 + DRV8301 examples from controlSUITE to the LP + BP.

We instead focus our time on the InstaSPIN-FOC solution through MotorWare, which is only for the F.
