How to start-up Instaspin while rotor running?

Hi

I am working on E-Bike with direct drive (gear-less motor) solution using InstaSpin and I an facing the a problem. When the system is enabled, the rotor is already running, for this reason the controller is not able to determine the zero reference position marked in InstaSpin User Guide (spruhj1f). Thus, motor is start to run such as stepper motor.

Can I start-up InstaSpin while motor is running? I already disabled the force angle flag, but the problem stays there

If negative, How do you recommend to enable the system?

  • Julio,
Yes, you can. We call this "flying start" you can search for this term.

this thread has the most information

    look for posts from Jorge.

We have it on our to do list to publish a lab...we hope to release in MW _16 at end of year.
  • Hi Chris

Thanks for the information, it is well to know that it will be a Lab in the following MW.
I been checking Jorge's post, there HW offset detection is bypassed and the predefined offset, placed in the user.h file, are used to calculate the ADC bias. As you know, an E-Bike uses a battery as power supply and DC voltage is changing when battery is discharging; that is why offset determination is needed for this solution.

Is it possible to calculate the HW offsets online (phase current and phase voltage)?
  • Julio,
that is a very good point and something we recognized last year. we have this filed to include a fix. It won't happen for MW 15 but we are looking at it for 16. Wish I had a more concrete answer for you.
