IGBT Gate Latch up with motoware

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE

Hello

We are using motorware to drive our own IGBT based inveter to run a 3 phase pmsm motor. We are testing at 330v. The IGBTs are rated at 1200v, 150A. We are see issues even at 30A.

As show in the image, the gate driver shows the correct on/off signals to the IGBT, but there are specific times when the IGBT fails to respond. We have tried a miller capacitor, free wheel diode, different gate resistors. This cant be the desaturation safety been fired, because then the off time would be 1ms.

Any advice on what could cause this ?

  • This is a tough one to answer without being able to probe the board. Is this signal in any way periodic when at constant load? Have you tried adjusting the gate drive bootstrap capacitor? Is there any ringing that is large enough to shut off the gate drive at the higher currents? Is the PWM frequency and current capability within specification of the gate driver?
