Does TMS470MF03107 have DMA Interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS470MF06607, TMS470MF04207, TMS470MF03107

Hi There,

On the datasheet there is nothing related to DMA and on the Technical reference manual for TMS470M it mentions DMA possibility for SPI, CAN, ADC and SCI modules.

If there is I couldn't find any example or detailed information about DMA interface registers. On the TRM it only gives the DMAxCTRL DMAxCOUNT and DMACTNTLEN registers...

My goal is to implement SCI with DMA..

Am I missing something??

  • Hi Suat,

Technical Reference Manual is common for a series of Devices, even though the IP's may be capable of, but based on your Device configurations(as mentioned in the device datasheet) few features may not be applicable for that device. There is no DMA in the device you are intending to use.
  • Hi Karthik,
You say the TRM is common for series of devices which is true but in this case the whole series consists of only 3 products ( TMS470MF03107, TMS470MF04207 and TMS470MF06607 ) and when I check their datasheets no info related to the DMA. Why then DMA interface is described partially in TRM?
  • Hello Suat,
In this case the "series" refers to all Hercules products including TMS470M and TMS570 (as well as the earlier non-catalog TMS470P). Because the same platform and peripherals are used between the products, the TRM content for peripherals is reused when a peripheral IP is reused.

  • Hi Karl,

Thanks for the answer but unfortunately the TRM that I'm referring has title "TMS470M Series Technical Reference Manual" (spnu495c.pdf) leading me to think that TMS470M series has this capability. To avoid confusion it would be better to explicitly state that TMS470M series doesn't support DMA or simple remove DMA related info from the TRM.

    Best regards,

    Suat

  • Hi Suat,

As stated in my colleague's response, the supported features are noted in the device datasheet.  If you do not like how the product group has elected to structure their documentation you may always submit a change request using the link found at the bottom of each page of the TRM.

    Best Regards,

    Karl
