Hercules LAUNCHXL2-570LC43- Automotive Engine Management System

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL2-570LC43

Hi all

For a study/demo project on the "Engine Management system in particular concentrating the Fuel injection & Ignition"   I plan to buy the Hercules LAUNCHXL2-570LC43. But when I check the supported Automotive Applications ,I Could not found Engine Management System .

Can I use this Launch Pad ( Hercules LAUNCHXL2-570LC43.) for the Engine Management System (Electronic Fuel Injection & Ignition ) ?

Will I be provided with the supportive files(application notes etc) regarding the Electronic Fuel Injection & Ignition ?

Could you please advise on this ?

  • Hi Surendhar,

The 570LC43x MCU is part of the Hercules family of MCUs from TI. These are powerful MCUs based on the Cortex-R4/R5 processors from ARM. The LAUNCHXL2-570LC43 is a low-cost development tool that can get you quickly started into exploring the features supported on this MCU.

We want to make sure that you are not incorporating the launchpad into your product, as the EVM terms and conditions doc www.ti.com/.../sszz027j.pdf doesn't allow for this; and more importantly the board hasn't been designed as a "SOM" to be used in an end product. It's a development board. Section 1 of the terms and conditions explains this.

The application notes for helping with Hercules MCUs are available from: www.ti.com/.../tech_docs.page;docCategoryId=1

These application notes are not specific to any end-application, rather they explain in more detail the functionality implemented on the MCUs. Many application notes come with a software example that demonstrates a particular feature.

    Best regards,
    Sunil
  • Surendhar,

If you plan to build in safety measures into your project - and maybe try to stick as much to automotive safety standards as you can - then I believe the Hercules family is a very good choice for your study and demo.

As Sunil says, the LaunchPad is not designed to be part of a production design. But for a study setup, it's going to be a good candidate to help you deliver a safe and reliable study project.
