Has Anyone Used Spansion NAND Flash With Hercules? (Unresolved BCH Issues)

Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone else out there has tried using the Spansion NAND Flash with the Hercules processor (non-EMIF).

I currently have a design using the '3137 and the S34ML_08G2x8 Spansion device.

I am using the NAND LLD provided by Spansion and the ION FAT FS; but there have been some issues.  Some of them are resolved; and some are still outstanding.

The biggest outstanding issue is I am still getting unresolved BCH issues - specifically; these messages are being printed out:

NLLD BCH Root not found.

Thanks,
johnw

  • Hi John,

Sorry no. Not even sure I know what BCH is - I assume it's the ECC correction coding scheme that the NAND driver is using but havent' touched NAND.

You might find help too on the Sitara forum as NAND is used more often with those type of devices... On MCU's, we're normally running code from embedded flash and don't often boot from NAND / copy to DRAM like Cortex A devices do.
  • Hello Anthony,

I was hoping Bacem from Spansion would reply since he's been on these forums talking about this issue.

The FLASH NAND is being used as a storage device - not a bootloader in this application.

BCH is the error detection and correction algorithm being used.

    Thanks,
    John W.
