No parallel read on Hercules RM44L520?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM44L520, HALCOGEN

Hi, after browsing this forum, and the technical manual for the RM44L520, I am getting the impression that this MCU more or less can not do parallel I/O, at least not in the traditional sense of writing/reading a single port.

Is this right?

Is there something I can read up on to understand parallel I/O on these MCUs, or is the simple answer that "These MCUs are not really made for parallel I/O."?

Also, in the HALCoGen, GIO Port A and GIO Port B are both listed with 8 bits each, but only half of their bits are actually mapped to pins. What is the reasoning behind this?

  • Hi Audun,

Please take a look at the N2HET1 pins. These pins can be used for PWM pins as well as GIO pins. You can read/write to these pins in parallel in GIO mode. For GIOA and GIOB some of the pins are bonded out due to the limitation of the package pin count.
