RM48L952: Estimation of power dissipation

Part Number: RM48L952

Hello
My customer is in the process of working out the maximum frequency they can run the RM48L952 at and was wondering if there is a spreadsheet (or any other tool) somewhere they could use to estimate the power dissipated by the micro ?

I don't know of anything, could you advise if there is something they could use ?

Many Thanks
Bob Bacon

  • Hi Bob,

No we don't have a power estimation spreadsheet. The only estimation tool we have is a formula to derate the *max* power consumption spec that is in the recommended operating conditions table of the datasheet.

Is the customer just worried about thermal estimation or is this a case where they have a low power mode target that they need to hit.

If it is the latter, the RM48 device really isn't a good fit unless its power can actually be switched 'off'.. About 50% of the worst case power is leakage related and will be there if power is on but clocks are all shut off. And this component is very sensitive to process, voltage and temp.

The RM48 device does have multiple power domains but the result at the end of the day was maybe ~10% at most if every optional domain is shut off so not terribly effective.
