Hi,

The original thread have been locked but no answer were provided.

Now i am using the ESM configured to raise an error in case of SYS soft error, and I have one as soon as I configure the ESM group 1 channel. Can you help me understand in which case this error is raised by SYS module to ESM module?

Hello Gael,

I don't know what can cause the SYS soft error and raise ESM1.90. I enabled ESM1.90 (INT and nERROR) and am doing CPU STC and reset loop, but haven't see this kind of soft error so far.

Gael,

There are several critical registers that have a 5-bit implementation that allows them to be corrected in case of a soft error. This correction is not based on any CPU operation, and is active always. There is no further decode possible to identify which register had the correction applied.

The actual register fields that support this implementation indicate it in their descriptions.

Thanks Sunil. I know it is active and can not be disabled. Gael and Peter (post enclosed) said they got the error. I also like to know what might trigger the soft error and in which register (CCDIS, CPURSTCR, SYSECR).

And in fact I'm interested in knowing which method should be used to modify these registers to deterministically avoid this kind of error, if there is one.

As described in the other post, the error appears sometimes and is not voluntarily reproducible.

Based on your answer, I think there is a misunderstanding: I am not willing to modify any ECC control register (as instance to disable it) that protects those registers.
When I wrote "which method should be used to modify these registers to deterministically avoid this kind of error", I was talking about the SYS module registers, as the ones you quoted: CSDIS, SYSECR, etc...

For example, is it possible to avoid this transient failure by performing only 32-bits write to those registers? Could read-modify-writes accesses to those registers be the cause of the transient soft error? Is there a known design/coding flaw in the SYS module that makes this error happen when in fact there is no one?

And also, where can I find the list of protected registers? Same question for L2FMC and DMA register soft error?

Hello Gael,

I don't have a list of this kind of registers. If you search in th TRM, it will show you the register which has this feature, for example MPULOCK (Lock), MPUDIAGCTRL(Diagkey), MPUCTRL1(MPUENA), MPUCTRL2(ERRENA), etc.

There is no recommended write sequence for those registers.

Hello QJ,

Your answer is interesting. The fields that you indicate have a pattern that we can find in a lot of other registers in the SYS module:

MINITGCR(MINITGENA)
MSTGCR(MSTGENA)
RAMGCR(RAM_DFT_EN)
BMMCR1(MEMSW)
DEVCR1(DEVPARSEL)
etc...

Can we generalize that the "SYS/DMA/L2FMC register soft error" ESM channels correspond any soft error detected in any register field built with that pattern of 5h/Ah value?

Hi Gael,

Yes, the ESM status flag will get set whenever any correction is made for a soft error detected in the registers that support this implementation.
