Can anyone explain to me what is the function of LaunchPad emulator (MSP430F16x), and how it actually works? I'm curious how debug process on LaunchPad works. How breakpoints are sets and such stuff. What if uC in socket on LaunchPad will don't have JTAG interface?

Do not take is seriously. There is no emulator. There is no emulation. TI talks funny.

The MSP430F1612 is part of the on-board flash emulation tool. See the Embedded Emulation section of MSP430 Launchpad

One should add that the 'Flash Emulation Tool' doesn't emulate anything anymore. This is what OCY meant with 'nothing is emulated'. It once was emulating programmable main memory when there were still MSPs with mask-programmed ROM.

Now it is just providing JTAG low-level acess to the attached MSP, allowing device programming as well as providing a debug interface. Direct programming of JTAG poins through USB or serial I/O would be slooo(add a few k of additional 'o's here)ooow.
