FR5739 I2C communication documentation and hints

I everyone,

I've read the manuals I find for the FR5739 about I2C communication.

I fail to find how to set the tertiary functions for the pins 1.6 and 1.7 (IC2). In the manuals I find only mentioning about that pins have secondary and tertiary functions.

Is this not needed when using I2C?

What I'm trying to do, is communicate with the MPU-6050 with I2C.
The 6050-documentation is clearly describing the protocol of sending and receiving bytes and stuff over I2C.
It's the CPU-docs that I don't find give me a clear uinderstanding about how to exactly do it in code for this cpu.
I wish there was talk about how to switch from sending to receiving bytes intermittently . That  couldn't be so unusual could it?

Help?

Thanks,

Johan
