find out FLASH memory usage in IAR Embedded Workbench

Hi,

I'm using IAR Embedded Workbench to compile some firmware written in C for an MSP430F2274 which has 32KB of FLASH memory.

I'd like to know how much of that memory my firmware is currently using.

How can I find it out?

It would be useful to find out also how many bytes of the [S]RAM is my firmware using in a given point of code anyway :)

Hello,

You can generate a map file - this file gives a listing of memory allocations for RAM and flash.

Go to Project -> Options -> Linker -> List (tab) and check the box 'Generate Linker Listing' . You can also check the box 'Module Summary' if required.

The map file is generated under the Output section of your project. Scroll all the way to end of the file to read the summary of flash and RAM usage.

Just a question: at the end of the MAP file I see:

12 760 bytes of CODE memory
523 bytes of DATA memory (+ 67 absolute )
2 622 bytes of CONST memory

what does CONST memory means?

CONST memory contains any variables that are declared as constant. For example if you have a lookup table in your code it will show up under this section.

I have IAR EW430 v5.40 and can't get it to show the memory usage.

I already selected the above mentioned options in the linker and tryed many other combinations, but the Build window just won't show anything about memory usage.

Did something change in this version?

The linker generates a map file that contains the information. It is not printed on screen. (unless you have a data size linker error, then you'll get part of the size information in the error message)

I want to ask a question about the information given by map file. I think CODE memory means size of used FLASH and DATA memory means size of used RAM. Is this correct? I want to correct this information with a document or etc.
