Programming the ezFET MSP430F5528 on a MSP-EXP430F5529LP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5528, MSP430F5529

I have a need to build a system with 2 MSP430s that emulates the interaction of 2 MSP430 devices communicating.  I was originally looking at just buying 2 launchpads for each of these.  Looking at the design of the boards, it sure looks like I should be able to program the F5528 from another launchpad/ezFET, through the test points, and just use both devices on one board, once I get it working.

Has anyone had any experience hijacking that F5528 with another Launchpad?

Thanks

Richard

  • It is not problem to reprogram MSP430F5528 (ezFET) because JTAG / SBW lines are assessable on board over TP1xx points.

It is also not problem to flash back original firmware after you don't need it anymore for your project, and want to use it again as FET. Problem is that not all pins of MSP430F5528 (ezFET) are acceptable on board, only few used for FET. If some of this pins are enough for you, you must take care of this FET connection / function regarding other components, to not destroy it, and disconnect it from TEST/RESET lines of target device (MSP430F5529).

MSP430F5529 LP is only 10$ (fedex shipping included), so I will take 2 for project, and that it. But if you want to make things more complicated by saving 10$, no problem, go for it.

  • Yeah, I'm that way about money, and also about board space or case space.  Your answer was spot on to what I needed, thank you much.
