CDC and HID on the same 55xx device concurrently

Does anyone know if you can run CDC and HID on the same 55xx device? I want to have one MSP430 connected to the PC via a single USB cable and have a keyboard connection and a serial port connection open at the same time.

Is this possible?

If it is possible does the TI API support it?

Andrew,

The current CDC and HID stacks are 'stand-alone' and not composite which is required for the application you describe.

We are fairly close to completing/releasing our CDC and HID composite stack (estimated date: E/O 1Q 2010). I can update this post (or the forum) when we have a more accurate release date.

Does this mean that it is possible to have a CDC and HID channel open through USB at the same time? i.e. the 55xx hardware supports this and the API will support this?

Andrew,

Yes, you can have a single MSP430 enumerated with two interfaces - a CDC and a HID at the same time. The F5529 API composite stacks will support this.

Can the 5529 support selective activation of the CDC or HID using a button? So could you enter CDC at the factory for factory test, then have only the HID working after shipment?

(This is a different question; you should have createad a new thread.)

The hardware is capable of this, but TI's USB stack does not support different configurations. You would have to implement the switching yourself.

I found the answer information MSP430 can use both CDC and HID, so we can aslo use two CDC at the same time ?

In theory, this is possible; just increase CDC_NUM_INTERFACES. All the CDC functions have a parameter for the interface number.

The MSP430USBDevelopersPackage contains an example of two CDC in one application. The example is named 'CC1_term2term'. You can also downlaod this example via the TI Resource Explorer in CCS.

MSP430F55xx serial can provide the drivers ?

The CDC interface is standardized; all OSes have built-in drivers for it (the only exception is Windows before 10).
