MSP430F2274 Compatibility

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLICITI, MSP430F2274, CC2538, CC2500

Hello,

I am working with the EZ430-RF2500 and I have figured out that the simpliciTI protocol does not support a mesh network topology. I have found a development kit that is very similar to my needs of the EZ430-RF2500 from the EZ430-RF2480. Unfortunately, this model is obsolete due to the out dated CC2480 chip. However, I have been looking at other chips that have the Zigbee protocol that can alleviate this issue. More specifically, I am looking at the CC2538 transceiver chip. My question is: Can the MSP430F2274 be compatible with the CC2538 transceiver chip with the Zigbee protocol on a custom board?

-Thanks for your time

  • Hi Isaac,

I moved this to the Low Power RF Tools Forum so that maybe they could weigh in too, since I'm not familiar with the CC2538. However, if it is just SPI or I2C communication needed between that chip and the F2274, I don't see why their would be a problem. Hopefully someone more familiar with that CCx part can confirm if this is the case or if there would be more needed that might complicate things.

    Regards,

    Katie

  • CC2538 is capable of running an application and zigbee. What are you planning to use the MSP430 for?

  • I am currently using the ez430fr2500 with the cc2500. I would like to upgrade to the cc2538 but I don't need all the things that come with the cc2538dk. I was hoping to use the CC2538 for zigbee mesh networking while the msp430 interfaces with a virtual com. I see that the CC2538 has a JTAG implementation on chip. Will it replace the msp430 and do the telemetry applications since it is a system on chip?
