MSP430 usb debug interface problem while Downgrading form V3 to V2.

I am using the FET PRO -430 Flash programmer for flashing the boards. After flashing the boards I did Firmware Downgrade from V3 to V2 through Tools Tab.

While doing this in between USB cable is disconnected , after that Debugger itself not detecting. Please guide me on this one, it is very urgent for me.

  • This is the worst thing that can happen, I think. I'm not 100% sure, but maybe the only way is to open your FET and flash the new firmware via JTAG into the processor (if the JTAG pins are available for a connection). On the other hand the FW upgrade is done by BSL I think, so you should be able to update your FETs firmware like flashing other MCUs. Except the BSL code is overwritten...

As I said - not really sure about that. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • HI Srinivasa,

Are you using the MSP-FET430UIF tool? Does the FET tool still show up in Device Manager at all under COM ports? If so, what is it listed as? (a screenshot might help here).

I have recovered some tools from a failed upgrade/downgrade before - usually involving some combination of running the upgrader and downgrader. If running the downgrader program again doesn't work, you may want to try to see if you can force it to upgrade first. But it can depend on what happened to your particular tool. There are also some tips here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSPDS_Debugger_Up-_and_Downgrade

    Regards,
